Subject: i need someone real smart on the 318 IP: Logged
Message: i have a 98 dakota with 318ci, it has a cold air intake, throttle body spacer, and tornado air spinner. i just did a tune up a couple months ago. i replaced cap, rotor, pcv valve, plugs and wires. it just feels like it has no ballls until u flat mash it but im scared to blow it up. if i leave it idle it will bog down to about 100 rpms then rev up to about 2000 rpms randomly then do it again. if i give it gas it comes out of it but i cant figure out what it is check engine light says o2 sensor but i just replaced both of them. i have askd several mechanics and noone seems to know. please help

Message: You may need to have the dealer flash the computer so that the it can be ree told how to act. another thing you can try is to have a truck on stand buy 4 a jump because you can try to take the + post off the bat and then try to start the engine 4 times and that will clear the capacitors in the computer but that means it will be hard to start on just the one bat.

Message: i believe you havea leaking gasket on the plate that bolts up under the beer keg (intake manifold) inside. thats why w.o.t. seems to run better. pinch off the hose from the pcv valve then open the oil fill cap and put your hand over the opening while the engine is at idle. if it sucks really hard then the gasket is blown.

Message: Dodge is very sinsitive rigs. Could need to
check injectors. I had simular problem
and after chasing and spending code then
more code. Start at the easiest. Sensors
hit the injectors before o2s. Back forth
proccess. If you throw cyl miss... injectors.
Not dead cyl. Try it out. Plus their cheap
and easy

Message: I would check a few things, #1 since you did the cap and rotor I would check to make sure you never turned the distributor. if you moved it even a little you could throw off your injector timing. (put #1 at tdc pull off the cap and the rotor should be pointed at the line on the hall effect plate below, if there is no line it should be at #1 terminal).
Since the computer thinks an O2 sensor is bad, that probably means it is running rich or lean out the exhaust, lean would start to cause problems up top so I would say Rich is your issue. Things to check there could be leaking fuel injectors, injector timing as i mentioned...and i cant think of much else right now. My suspicion is you moved the distributor when you did the cap and rotor without knowing it.
