Message: Got an 02 4.7L that I am having problems starting. It cranks and cranks and cranks and will finally start but it sputters to the start. Most of the time I get gas out of the exhaust that is blue in color (almost like unburned gas). When it has been sitting for a while it fires right up. I have replaced spark plugs..coil packs..fuel pump. I know the 02 doesnt have an EGR valve so now I am at a loss. Any ideas? Also not getting the fuel mileage that I used to.

Message: Check for codes. It sounds like you may have some leaky injectors. Post back with codes.

Message: the only code I got with the key turning was the P0455 which is the standard fuel cap. I replaced that a couple days ago. If I take it to Autozone the codes they run tell me I have some random engine cylinder misfires.

Message: P0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak)
This is not the gas cap. It's something larger. Look under the cab in front of the fuel tank. The charcoal canister is there and those hoses are prone to cracking. A code P0456 is a small leak and likely the gas cap.
You can check codes yourself and post them back here. Just turn the ket on/off/on/off/on and the codes will display in the odometer.

Message: Checked the hoses and you were correct!!! Thanks a ton for the heads up. I have spent hundreds of dollars trying to figure out a fix that cost me 10 minutes of my time. I had a little slack on the hoses so I just cut some off the end. I really appreciate your help!!
