I have an 01 dakota 4X4 with the 4.7. drove it to work one day with no problems but when i got back in, the truck fired right up normally.when i went to go give it gas it stutters. once i'm over 1000 rpm it goes to smooth out but still lacks power. it also will not idle. I found one vaccum leak on the evap by the tank but nothing else. threw a evap leak code and also auto shutdown relay code. what else sould i look for. when i pull the breather tube from heads smoke just billows out constantly

Smoke billows from the heads or smoke billows from the "breather tube"?

the breather tube from both heads connects to the air intake. when you pull it from the intake it constanly blows out smoke. Its been smoking for quite awhile and I know i may have bad valve guides and this is the smoke but why is the truck choaking out now.

Well. You still didn't answer the question, but I'll guess this smoke comes from the tube (that feeds the crankcase breathers) when you disconnect it from the intake manifold. Check the PCV valve. It may be plugged. PCV valve is on the outboard side of the oil fill housing. Also blow out the hose that goes from the PCV valve to the rear of the intake manifold, to make sure it isn't plugged.

the pcv valve is fine and all vaccum hoses seem to be fine. the truck "diesels" (like starving for air) at an idle then dies. i don't think it is a fuel issue because at higher rpms it goes away.

my 2000 dodge dakota 4x4 QC has really started losing power. if i let it sit and get cold and start it up and kinda stutters and dont wanna go. all of this happened after i changed out the crankshaft and the camshaft position sensors. i dont have a clue what it could be at first i thought injectors... they are fine and clean. then i thought another sensor somewhere but no sensor code is up. idk what to do any help?

i have a 2001 dakota 4.7L 2WD. similar problem. bad idle, stalls. code says #7 misfire. replaced #7 injector. still bad idle. also bad exhuast mainfold gasket. leaking gas at #7. #7 injector on all the time. if i unplugged injector harness, gas stops spitting. found the signal to #7 inj was grounded all the time and not being pulsed. looks like ECM failed. BUT there was oil in the ECM connector. 3 months ago had a bad pwr steering pressure switch. fluid leaked thru bad sensor and into wiring harness and got pushed all the way to the ECM. looking for an ECM (ebay or used to save $) Will a delaer reprogam a used one?
