Subject: High Speed Vibrations IP: Logged
Message: Picked up a very clean 93 Dakota 4x4 last week. Truck runs great, nly has 195k miles on it. When I got on the freeway and reached a speed of 60mph the truck began to vibrate like crazy. When I reached 75mph the vibrations stopped. I thought it might be the driveline and took the one out of my 94 to do a swap but it's not the same. Trucks are exactly the same but the 93 has a longer peice that goes into the transfer case. longer by about 1 inch. so I put the shaft back in and rotated it 180 and now the truck squeeks from a stop until I get going about 40 and still vibrates at 60. What next?

Are you talking about the driveshaft?
It could be your universal joints.

Message: Yes Daddio thats what I meant. Driveline or driveshaft. The universal would make noise anytime the truck is moving wouldn't it? Plus when I had the driveshaft out the U joint appeared to be functioning although it was a little stiff. But would that cause the vicious high speed vibration? I know it won't last long if it continues to vibrate. I'll put in the $8.00 U joint and see if that helps. If not I'll be back.

Message: How about tire/wheel balance, Most likely the
culprit when it only happens at certain speeds.
