Subject: Clunking sound IP: Logged
Message: My 2003 V8 Quad cab has a clunking sound when I drive over rough roads. Replaced all shocks (the old ones were in good shape grrrrr). Clunking is still there. Any ideas? I hesitate to take it to a dealer as I know they will just start replacing parts until they get it (if they ever do).

Message: Gerry: I have an 02 4X4 and it is clunking in the front end as well. I had the upper ball joints changed under the recall but was concerned either the ball joints or tie rod's were bad. Took it in to a mechanic and he told me the sway bar bushings are bad and need replacement. Bottom line is you need to take it in and get it checked.>>AJ

Message: I don`t have a 4 X 4 but I did have a clunking sound as well. I found out my transmission mount had lost its one and only bolt. My guess is that it had been loose for some time from the looks of things underneath. It may not be your issue but would be a good idea to check anyway. It`s the bolt near the end of the tail shaft after the cross member. Good luck.
