Subject: A/C Charging/Compressor issues IP: Logged
Message: I replaced my compressor, and am at the stage of charging it. It is a 1999 V8.
I hook up the R134a to the smaller inline valve (I believe this to be the low pressure side), and try to fill. My gauge indicates there is a full charge within 2-3min, but the clutch on my compressor refuses to engage. I have double checked all of the connections to and from, ran through the resistance, and checked the fuses/relay and everything is ok.
I thought this to be a little odd, so I emptied the system and relatively low pressure came out, with little to no coolant. I re-tried and still had same result.
Am I filling from the wrong side? The a/c charge that I purchased only came with one connector and I cant seem to find a different one other than the 70-80 dollar models that do both high and low side. Any suggestions???
Thank you for your help.

Message: You only changed the compressor? This is a no no. Did you pull a vacuum? Pulling a vacuum is a must anytime you open the system. What size can of R134a did you connect to the system? Check the tag on the compressor or consult a manual for the proper amount it takes to refill the system. Probably somehwere around 3 lbs. Most cans you buy off the shelf are only 14 ozs. Not near enought to charge an empty system.

Message: How about oil, If I over looked it in your post then
skip this. However if not you need to add oil after
changing the compressor and/or evap canister.
