2000 Dakota Sport 4wd V8 318 5spd Manual:

Hey guys I have searched and found a lot of people have the same issue but i haven't found a clear solution.

I was off roading in October 09 for a weekend and right when I left, the Speedo P0500 code come on, along with the ABS light. On top of that whenever I pushed the clutch in to come to a stop the truck wants to die and most times does. So i replaced the rear speed sensor on the rear dif but that didn't work. I then checked the front hub sensors and they seem fine. I checked all the connections thinking water might have gotten in somewhere but couldn't find anything. I then took it to a shop and the mechanic diagnosed it for free and said i need a new ABS Module. I mine re-programed for $130 and that didn't work either. So meanwhile I have been just holding the revs up with my heel as I brake or just use my left foot to brake. VERY ANNOYING lol Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Brandon

Do you still have any codes? Have you checked lately?

And how do you have an '00 w/ 318? Engine swap?
318 wasn't available after '99.

I know, I didn't answer any of your questions but I'm just trying to get more background on it first.

It is a 00 with the 4.7... is it not a 318? i have had it since 2k miles so there has not been an engine swap.. Only code it throws is P0500 and the ABS light is on and the speedometer doesn't work.

Thanks for your help.

No, the 4.7 is I think 287cu.in.

P0500 if not the sensor check the connector and make sure it's clean and not corroded up. Also look for any chaffing on the wiring. Have you gone to a tire size other than stock? That may cause a problem also. Have you reset the PCM since you've changed the sensor? You could try that too.

Latest news on my truck. Past week sometimes when I get on the gas exiting a turn the truck hick-ups like it is starving for fuel then it picks back up fine and goes on it's way. The other day went out to start my truck and it would crank but wouldn't start. Then I unplugged the PCM and reconnected it and it started right up. Then two days ago I am driving and it just dies completely while i was in gear, starved for fuel basically (didn't kill the power). So I get it towed to my guys shop and now the scanner is saying that the PCM lost power. But then the next morning it started right up.. any thoughts? Thanks!!!

The PCM lost power when you unplugged it and it probably stored the code then.
