Subject: # of Cats on 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: I recently bought a 2002 QC with the 4.7 and 45RFE
transmission. I checked out the exhaust and I only
see 1 cat which sits above a cross member. The broadcast sheet shows the HP is rated at 230. So I'm confused what the engine is really rated and why there is 1 one cat on the exhaust.
Anybody else have only 1 cat on the their exhaust ?

Message: My 2002 truck only has one cat, NO PRE-CATS. It depends on where you live and what emission package the truck is ordered with.

Message: I checked again and there is only pipe between
the exhaust manifold and the 1 cat located on top of the transmission crossmember.
The truck was built on 4/16/2002 and I'm in the St. Louis area. So I wondering if DC made a mid year change concerning the exhaust system or if this is a midwest thing ?

Message: Because I use a wheelchair I have been waiting for my professional mechanic friend (30 years in bussiness) to drop by for a beer.
I had him look under my 02 QC w/the 4.7 for the number of cats b/c there are so many differences.
I have ONE cat by the tranny w/the 02 sensors before and after. I bought the truck in North West Florida in November of 2001. (2002 truck) A high flow cat will be coming soon.
