Subject: Stalling then not starting IP: Logged
Message: i have a 1993 dodge dakota v8, well it started acting like we had got bad gas. It was was stalling and we could put the pettle to the floor and it wouldnt go above 15 then it would stop and starting going, it was backfiring alot too. We put fuel and injector cleaner in it and it helped just a little. Then it died wouldnt start so we had to tow it. Next we replaced the fuel filter. Drove it home from my dads it repeted the stuff above andd we towed it home. We replaced the spark plugs, rotor, cap, wires, checked the fuel pressure and fuel pump. it started once back fired and died. It wont even start with starting fuild. Any ideas?

Message: try this =
Go under the hood
Drivers side inner fender well
Black fuse/relay box
remove it
un-tape the wire harness a foot or so back
then you are looking for a splice of 3 to 4 wires
(should be red/white stripes)
check the splice
it either gets crudded up or breaks off all
together
cut the splice out
re-do it
tape it all back up
put fuse/relay box back on
post back with an update

Message: Ok. THank you but we tested the relay termals with a volt meter to test electrical current, and they all had some. Should I still try re wiring it?

Message: That splice
has an extremely high failure rate on 92 - 96s.
You have nothing to lose but a half hr or so to
check it.
(doesn't cost a single dime)
It may or may not be your problem.
Considering it's a 93, If the splice was never
redone it's only a matter of time before it fails.

Message: Sounds like you might have a bad connection shorting out the Crankshaft position sensor. Sometimes the EGR pipe gets hot and if the CPS wires are routed wrong the insulation will melt and the wires will short out and send an incorrect signal causing the symptoms you described. Then they will cool down and the truck will run ok until the wires get hot again. Check the Crankshaft position sensor located on the passenger side of the motor at the firewall just below the EGR valve.

Message: Your "friend" at Midas ripped you off if he charged you more than $0.10. Timing chains don't just jump timing. And exactly what "other stuff" broke? Don't get me wrong I'm happy that you got your truck fixed. But we all have had some type of trouble with our trucks over the years and I'm pretty sure that besides you there may be 2 other people associated with this site who have had a timing chain jump timing for no reason. It may have completely broke but even that isn't likely. Next time you have a problem with your truck take it to your "friend" at Midas before asking us to waste our time assessing the trouble. These folks put alot of effort into helping us solve our problems and they deserve the reward of knowing that they may have helped figure out a problem. Maybe if your subject was "anybody know how to get to Midas" someone could have told you that a muffler shop is only going to help seperate you from more of your money than they needed to. Thats my opinion anyway, for whatever its worth.

Message: You guys said that this happens with to 92-96 right, cause I have a 92 though yes its a v6 but we ripped out basically the all the wiring through and through, change all the sensors, went through the timing chain and found a little slack but nothing is wrong with it, and change multiple other things, and still can not find the problem. I posted my message on the v6 dakotas though most of the reply's aren't as helpful. I also have a post on http://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen-dakota/261482-3-9l-barely-running-looking-for-ideas-2.html It is a two pager so be sure that you look at them both, thank you guys and please we are in dire need of help.
