 Subject: How to improve brakes?

'01 Dakota. Since new, I have been disappointed with the braking capability on this truck. I have had rotors replaced with PowerSlot rotors and have tried two different brands of pads and shoes, and have had the brake system completely gone through-- checked and bled top to bottom-- by two different repair shops. Any kind of panic stop still results in bottoming the brake pedal and insufficient braking to stop quickly or even lock a front or rear wheel. What next? Any aftermarket calipers or brake boost systems worth looking at??

If you're running 16" wheels, I think you can swap to '02-'04 calipers and rotors. They should be larger than the '01 and they also came with rear discs brakes.
You could also try aftermarket rotors and pads from someone like Baer or SSBC. Also replace the stock rubber flex hoses with some Stainless Steel ones.

Thanks. Truck has had poor brakes since day 1. Will start by having the MC rebuild and system flushed. I wish I could find a compatibile Dodge MC that was 1mm or so smaller diameter than stock, that would help. If that doesn't help then the swap to 02-04 components sounds interesting-- I do have 16" wheels. I'll have to check the online parts sources and see about that. Best sources for SS hoses??

"Best sources for SS hoses??" Not sure, never looked for any. As mentioned above though, Baer, SSBC maybe Willwood and I'm sure there are a few others.

I put power slot rotors and hawk pads and noticed a big difference. Make sure you have the right pad. I put the wrong one on the first time and it was horrible.

Best source for ss hoses= Crown Performance, i got some front brake hoses from them, cool folks great product, all they do is hoses.
