Subject: 4.7L Fuel pressure help please!

Howdy,

My 4.7 is having trouble starting warm, acts as if an injector is leaking, flooding the cylinder.

The service manual says that it’s normal for a cold vehicle to have 0 fuel pressure, due to the contraction caused by the temp drop. In the Leakdown test it tells me to warm the engine, then monitor the pressure for five minutes after shutdown, and it should not drop to less than 30psi.

So while running I have 49, normal. Immediately upon shutdown I have 45. It starts dropping very slowly. At 15 minutes it’s at 41, 20 minutes it’s 33, 30 minutes it’s 21, and in about 45 minutes it’s essentially zero. This is at about 48 degF ambient.

Does this sound normal? I've already changed the IAC valve and thoroughly cleaned the TB, changed the TPS, and checked the functionality of the ECT and IAC (air charge) sensors. Oh yea, and I replaced the fuel delivery module to the tune of $900 (I'd like to burn that shop, but that's another story).

I would greatly appreciate any ideas!

You have a leaking injector or injectors. Try a
couple bottles of some good cleaner. I've always
been happy with STP in the black bottle. Prestone
complete fuel system cleaner is also good. I use a
bottle of each, Never had a problem. This falls
under personal choice so as always make yours.

Thanks for the reply. I've been running Lucas injector cleaner through, one bottle per tank per the instructions. Hasn't seemed to help. Is there a limit to how much of this stuff you can run at a time?

I've read some info online that indicates injectors should be changed out at approx 80K. Is there any truth to this, or is it just the part manufacturers trying to sell? I have 110K on my '02 4.7L Quad. I gotta do something, as I'm afraid I'm going to burn out my starter and be stranded on the road. I travel quite a bit for my job.
