Subject: replacing power steering pump IP: Logged
Message: i have a 2000 dodge dakota 4x4 4.7 with 189000 miles on it and the powersteering pump just went out.. i've priced them and already have one ordered. i was just wondering how hard it would be to put the new pump in myself verses taking it to a shop and paying them to do it. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, steven

Message: Replacing the pump on my 5.9 QC was a breeze. My HAYNES had the instructions for 4.7 and I don't think you would have too much trouble. If you got a good set of hand tools and some patience, you'll be fine. I wouldn't pay a shop to do it.

Message: alright thanks, so you didnt need anything special to get the pulley off besides like a break over bar? the only thing thats really minor that i was wondering about is the plastic debris guard thats on the inside of the wheel well.. it looks like it has some kind of plastic rivets in it that you would have to punch out. any clue how to get that guard off to have better access to the pump?
