Subject: NEED 4.7 HELP!! IP: Logged
Message: Need some HELP. I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota QC 4X4 4.7, 185,000 miles. It was running fine. For the last 3 yrs the engine light has been on with a 601 code (bad PCM). But it has been running fine with the 601 code. So I went to change the spark plug as I always do, change them one by one. After I was done, went to start the truck and it was running ruff & idling ruff. Like a cylinder was not firing or something. So I cleaned the TB replaced the TPS & IAC & O2 sensor still nothing. So I turn the truck on, pulled the #1 spark plug wire (did nothing) then #3, then #5, then #7 (one by one). Then I had unplugged the #1,3,5,7 all at the same time and the truck stayed on like I did nothing. If I pulled any of the other spark plug wires (one by one 2,4,6,8,) you could tell the difference with just one unplugged. So I pulled the plugs and the 1,3,5,7 one looked like weren’t firing at all.
Is there anything other than the PCM that would cut off ½ of the engine? Thanks for any help.

Message: Nothing that I am aware of would cause a whole bank to shut down. The computer controls spark on the 4.7. It also controls the fuel delivery. Are those cylinders getting fuel? I would double check that you didn't hit a ground wire or something that would cause either the coils on that side or the injectors to lose their ground. Other then that, I am out of bright ideas.

Message: Since when does a 4.7 have spark plug wires?
Give the wires to the coils on that bank a good once over. I'm not sure about the wiring on the 4.7 but one bank may have a common for all the coils on that bank.

Message: Hay daddio, what I mean by plug wires
is the plug to the coil. If one is bad do
they all go bad . I wouldn't think so.. But what
do I know. They can only plug in where they
can off, can't realy mix them up.
Thanks for any input!!

Message: I would follow the wiring harness back and look for a ground. Otherwise I am not sure. without looking at it I can't tell. But I would expect something like that to be your problem, if the pcm failed I would expect no fire in any cylinder.
