 Subject: '04 4x4 4.7 tapping sound

my '04 4.7 v8 4x4 quad cab has a tapping sound that seems to be comeing from the rear underside of the truck, its a faint tapping, I only hear it at lower speeds but it does get slower/faster as the truck goes slower/faster and it doesnt seem to be constant, or it my be so light at times I just cant hear it, I also only hear it while the truck is moving, not when it is just sitting at idle. my brother said it could be an exhaust leak or u-joint. any ideas on what to check would be appreciated. thanks

Do you have 4 wheel disc brakes? I have a pad with just a tad of play on one rotor that taps at times. I can just barely apply brakes, not enough to slow down, just enough to turn on the brake light lol, and the tapping stops.
Just a thought, my $0.02.

hmmmm, thanks for the posts, Avery that could be what it is, because now that I think of it, I dont recall hearing the noise when I apply the brakes, I'll have to test that and see for sure
