Hi Everyone,

First time poster here, and first time truck owner. I have read some of these threads so I will try and include the necessary information.

2003 Dakota, Quad Cab, 4x4, 4.7L V8, 5sp Auto [5-45RFE), 9.25LD, 3.55, P245/70R16, HD groups, Alt: 136A, Batt: 750A, soft tonneau

As I said before this is my first truck, so I just have a very general question. The rear end of it seems to like to break free and get lose on me a lot, and just want to make sure this is natural and not indicative to a bigger problem (yea, some of it will fix itself once I stop enjoying the big engine)

- I want to get LSD on it, and just wanted to know if you guys would recommend it. If so can you give me a rough idea what it may cost?

- I like the sound of it, and am looking for maybe just a little more rumble out, but nothing glass shattering. There seems to be so many options and I am pretty much lost where to start (cat-back, true dual, flowmaster, glasspak, ect).

- Would any of you be able to give me some suggestions of any other modifications that would be good to improve performance or gas mileage? I will probably change the air filter, plugs and maybe wires, fluids (any suggestions and reasonings for the suggestions?)

Thank you for your time and your help! I can't wait to get out in the snow.

If I,m not mistaken-9.25LD indicates the factory posi.unit. Can you spin both tires or only one? As for exhuast, I,ve had very good use from the flowmaster 3inch single catback with the 50 series muffler. The 40 is just too loud. The flowmaster setup is easy to install in your driveway. Be sure you have a BIG hammer to take off the old muffler.

dakinblk, I am not really sure, but I will test it out this weekend. For the test what do I need to do? Jack-up the, say, right rear wheel. Then if it doesn't spin that would indicate that I do have posi right?

How much did your exhuast mods run ya? Also if you could rank it from Factory Sound to 'Holy chit that is loud' where would you put your system?

Thanks.

"If I,m not mistaken-9.25LD"

Yes you are correct there
It means 9 1/4 inch Limited Slip Differential
& the 3.55 Would signify the gears

On the muffler
a 40 series is loud
50 series gives you a nice deep aggressive tone
without the "damn that's just to loud" thought

I'd like to point out
Thrush now makes a steel chambered fully welded muffler that sounds just like a 50 series
& they are less then half the money (40$ for mine)

Thrush has been in business for decades.

From some of your post I get the idea that you don't know your truck very well.
"I will probably change the air filter, plugs and maybe wires"
The 4.7 uses a "Coil on Plug" ignition system. No cap, rotor or wires to worry about.

I would like to suggest you pick up a Chilton's or Haynes repair manual for your truck. They can be a great tool for the beginner.

By the way, Great choice of truck. If you take care of it, you should get great service from it.
ENJOY!

daddio - Your assessment is correct. I really do not know anything about the truck and that is why I came to seek out advice. I have been the proud owner of it for some 14 hours now maybe, and have put probably 10 miles on it...so yea I'm a clueless.

And I will look for the repair manuals ASAP.

Thank you for your input.
