I have an 01 dakota with the 4.7 and the idol has been all over lately all and even dying. so i unplugged the wire on my ecm just to make sure they were connected right. i also changed my oil, and cleaned my K&N. Then when i drove it around about 1 hour later. engine light came on reads p0700, but code reader reads p1784, my code book doesnt have the code p1784, but p0700 reads transmission control system malfunction. the truck rpms get down to like 400 at times, tranny is doing something weird when i stop like clunking, it wont shift it just stays in 2nd and 3rd. no 1st and wont hit overdrive. its snowing and i cant ride my streetbike to work so please help fast

Not sure if your year has the separate TCM(Trans Control Module) or if it is part of the ECM(Engine Control Module).

01 has a seperate trans contol module. It is on the pas side engine compartment up front.

Just wonder with the controller malfunctioning, if that would be a false P1784 code.

Exactly what I was thinking. It could be a possibility.

I would try resetting the PCM/TCM by disocnnecting the battery for a couple minutes.

"so i unplugged the wire on my ecm just to make sure they were connected right."

It is not a good idea to do that when the battery is still connected.
