Subject: front brakes grabbing to hard IP: Logged
Message: (2001 Dakota Quad Cab SLT)
I had my front brakes inspected because they were squeaking. The rotors and pads were both fine but there was rust buildup that was cleaned out. Now when I have to brake at high speeds the brakes grab to the point where the front wheels lock up. I'm not slamming on the brakes just putting them on a little hard. This does not happen at slow speeds. Only at highway speeds. Also the front brakes are not anti-lock. I believe it is just the back drum brakes.
Anyone know what this issue could be?
Thanks

Message: the problem is most likely that the rears are out of adjustment. Do what Dr. Fishman suggests or...
find an empty parking lot. Leave lots of room behind you. Back up quickly to about 10mph and slam on the brakes. Repeat. over and over. Maybe 10-15 times. If the self adjusters are not screwed up, that should solve the problem. If it doesn't, disassemble as suggested and diagnose that problem.
