Message: 1. Yes, there's a way to tell if you have a limited slip differential. Get both rear wheels off the ground, then turn one by hand, watch the other one. If it turns in the same direction it's a limited slip. If the other one turns the opposite direction, you do not have a limited slip.
2. It's not a CV joint. It's a Double-Cardan universal joint, and is there for a reason. If you replace it with a standard universal joint (if you could), you would experience drivetrain vibrations, especially while using 4WD. Don't "fix" it, it ain't broke.

Message: Part 2
Limited slip check with wheels off the ground must be done with emergency brake OFF, and transmission in NEUTRAL. If the transmission is in PARK, and you do have a limited slip differential, the wheel your trying to turn will not.
Which brings to mind another way to check.
With one rear wheel off the ground, and emergency brake OFF and trans in NEUTRAL, try to turn the wheel that's off the ground. If it turns, you do not have limited slip. If it does not turn, you either have limited slip, or the trans is still in PARK.

Message: I know that it is a limited slip, I am wondering if it has a factory electronic locker for the rear. Reason I ask is that I changed the diff fluid not too long ago and noticed two wires coming out of the top of the housing.

Message: Those two wires connect to an ABS sensor in the differential housing.

Message: Actually the one on the top of the differential is the speed sensor. your ring gear has a ring on the outside that is read by the sensor telling your vehicles speed. if that goes out (by experience) you will lose your speedo, the abs light and check engine light will come on.
