Subject: 2007 Crew Cab Dakota 4WD IP: Logged
Message: I was joy riding over dunes in NC and now the truck sits lop-sided with the passenger side rear bumper lower than the driver side and the truck now pulls to the left. Someone said that I need an "all-wheel" alignment" because the rear axle is jarred out of whack about a 1/4 inch. Before I spend the money on this alignment is what I'm being told sound correct? Thanks for your time...

Message: Sounds like it might be more damage than that. How did they come to that conclusion ? Do you believe that would account for how much lower the right side is now ? If you can't diagnose the problem yourself, might be better to have the shop diagnose and repair rather than taking it in and telling them how to repair it. Did you check for broken springs ?

Message: Springs are fine. My wife brought it into a shop where her ex is a mechanic and three of the workers came to that conclusion of the axle being jarred. Personally myself I was thinking that it could be a broken shock because of how much the truck sags on one side.

Message: Unless you have overload shocks, the shocks just dampen the action of the springs. They don't support the height of the truck.

Message: Personally, I'd take it to a competent frame/ alignment shop. You could have tweaked the frame a bit. You'd be surprised how little it takes to do that if you hit the right angles.

Message: WOW! What's the deal with getting all over Kow? At least he brought something to the table here. He made valid suggestions.
Really, though George needs to crawl around under his truck and take a look at that rear suspension. Then fi he can't see any obvious problems, bring it to the experts.

Message: Often what is obvious to some is not obvious to others. For example, it's obvious to me that "Howard" is most likely someone who was using a different name in the off topic section; and his real problem is more likely a difference of political opinion that he can't get over. Too bad he has to drag it here to the regular forums. This will be obvious to some of the regulars; but not to those just looking into the site for a question.

Message: I check each day for any "Constructive" advice daddio... I travel a lot and haven't had time to get the truck in to have it looked at. It appears that Howard and Ski have their issues... If I wanted to hear a bunch of flaming I would have gone to a kiddie chat room.
