Subject: 4.7 v8 IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 dodge dakota, 4.7 V8 auto trans,not sure which trans it has, its stock from the factory if that helps. check engine light is on, they said its the oxygen sensor and the solenoid in transmission..i need to know where the solenoid is located at on the transmission..how hard it is to replace..and also how many speeds is it..if i go to check the shifting..how many will it shift? i know if its a 5 speed it will shift 6 times, last shift is locking the solenoid...so im told?

Message: The only automatic transmissions used behind the 4.7 are the 45RFE and the 5-45RFE. Both are really the same transmission, with the 5-45RFE getting it's fifth gear through different electronic programming, while the 45RFE is a four speed. While some can feel the torque converter lock up, it is not counted as an extra shift. '00 has the 45RFE, not sure when it changed, I would think that info would be in your owners manual. Not familiar with changing the solenoid, but hopefully this will clarify what you have.
