Subject: can you rebuild an abs module? IP: Logged
Message: So I was told by my mechanic that my abs module needs to be replaced because it won't stop running. It's 4-wheel abs so I can't find a used one anywhere and a new one is almost $3000.00 any ideas?

Message: Since you didn't provide year or model, here's some generic advice.
Before you spend 3 grand for your "mechanic," spend a few bucks for you, and have it verified by a Dodge service deparment, where they have the right tools and test equipment. If you have your "mechanic" replace the module and the problem doesn't go away, will he put your old module back in and not charge you for it?
Alternatively, remove the fuse for the ABS (or unplug the module). This will remove ABS function, of course, and will revert to non-ABS braking. Will also most likely cause a malfunction light.

Message: it's a 99 Dakota RT and it was at a Dodge Service department. The fuse has been removed which stopped the pump from running, but is there anyway to rebuild it or find a short in the module that's telling it to keep running?

Message: Are you sure it's not a short in the wiring harness or a bad ABS Sensor maybe?

Message: the electrical specialist at Dodge said it was the module that had to be replaced, but I'm hoping that there could be a short somewhere that could make it run non-stop.

Message: I work for the company that makes these and it sounds like the motor relay inside the module is bad. You will need to replace just the ECM that his held on by a couple of screws. If you don't want to buy a new one there are places that will repair it...just check ebay. Good luck

Message: "OK.....The ASB module "motor" is whats running even when the keys aren't in the ignition".
What is signaling it(the motor), telling it that it needs to run......to me....this is where the problem is. Not the module.
"Does this make sense"?
