Subject: Code 25 on 95 SLT 4x4... IP: Logged
Message: Alright, my engine light came on a few weeks ago and I pulled a code telling me my EGR valve was bad. I just blew $150 on a new EGR valve and installed it. The truck ran great and I parked it.
A few hours later I came back, fired it up, and my engine light came on. This time I got code 25, something about an open/short on my AIS circuits. What should I check? I am guessing that AIS stands for air intake sensor, but am not sure.
Oh and I am posting this from my BlackBerry in a Walmart, so please forgive any typos!

Message: Nobody else has ever in the history of the Dakota had a code 25? I found out that AIS is the "automatic idle system". So what exactlt should I check? I'm sure there is just a loose connection, but to what?

Message: That looks like it is the IAS. It's located on the back of the TB. If it is running fine I would just reset the PCM and see if the code pops up again.

Message: Yeah I did that. Full reset and a few minutes into a trip to town, the light came on. Same code, 25. I bought some dielectric grease to use on the connectors in town and will grease them tomorrow to see if it helps. The truck IS idling at 800~1200rpm now, instead of the normal 400rpm.

Message: You may want to remove the TB and give it and the IAS plunger and passages a good clenaing.

Message: Once again i would have to agree with daddio, its fairly simple to pull the entire tb off and clean the whole thing, the "automatic idle speed motor" is, i believe toward the back (dont mistake that for the throttle position sensor)and comes off with two screws theres a spring loaded plunger in there, clean all the parts and re-assemble it,when you take it off check the spring back.thats a good place to start anyway, when i swapped throttle bodies i had to change out the parts on it from one to the other and from what i can remember they were dirty.

Message: Yeah I went off and put dielectric grease in all of my electrical connections to prevent any shorting and to prevent corrosion (dielectric grease stops the flow of power, if you didn't know) and that didn't help, so I now fear that the IAS motor is gone.
As for removing the TB, are you referring to just the round part under the air filter housing with the two-barrel butterfly valve in it, or the entire intake, which would require many things to be disconnected? If I can take off just that rounds piece and clean it up I'm game, but I doubt I'll want to remove my entire intake.

Message: Yes - just the throttle body (TB); not the whole intake manifold.
