Message: Don't use that Mobil 1 stuff. Get yourself some good synthetic oil, AMSOIL and make sure you use an oil filter designed for synthetic fulid. The AMSOIL Oil filter or a K&N oil filter. YOu may want to buy yourself a AMSOIL or K&N after market air filter also while you are at it.

Message: I think its safe to say that its no so much the oil, but the interval of changes that is important...
In my younger years, I used to work on cars at my grandfather's garage... I've broken down many engines... well i helped... and those who changed their oil every 3000 miles has much cleaner and less worn engines... they generally lasted longer than those who didn't change oil regularly... I've used Havoline oils and i've been very happy with the engine life but i change my oil every 2500-3000 miles...
Up until this past oil change, i used fram filters but i don't anymore because you yall, but I still didn't notice any difference in the engines of those who used fram filters... but everyone here couldn't be wrong, right? :)

Message: Use valvoline durablend thats the best oil out there don't use the mobil 1 it will and I say it will find every little hole to leak out of and you have to replace valvecover gaskets because as they get older the synthetic will leak out. Also never use pennsoil you just might as well put piss in insted of oil! Just my thoughts use what you want or your wallet lets you

Message: Man, I hear that all the time from people who use amsoil, and I don't care how "good" the oil is, it breaks down over time, and I would not leave it in my vehicle without changing for 25000 miles. I run Mobile1 full sythetic, and after 3000 miles it is black. I woudl hate to see oil that has been in my engine for even 8000 miles. I guess I like my engine to much to possibly damage it because the oil manufacturer says I don't have to change the oil. Changing the oil is cheap insurance for your engine, and not changing it will void any warranty on your engine. I'm sure if your engine seized up at 35K and they say you didn't change your oil, they won't say it's alright wehn you tell them you used "Amsoil"

Message: Heres my experience, change oil whatever prefference oil. What ever color bottle you like between 3000 to 4000 miles. As far as going 25000 miles with an oil change. FORGET IT. I dont care if NASA makes that oil. I had a little knock in my engine lately. I thought it was the gas or something else. I changed the oil after 4000 miles( I got lazzy) and knock went away. That mite not have been the reason but its gons so I dont care. Any earlier then 3000 is a waste of money UNLESS you race or tow. Plugs Im still not sure. I have the 3923 in the 4.7 and probably wouldn't know if they were Toys R US plugs in there. Still have to experiment. Now I have a question-- Why is there all this talk if the 4.7 takes 5 or six quarts. I only use five and it read full. I dont want oil all over the place with one quart to much.

Message: Lets think about this 25,000 mile oil change that Amsoil recommends. Amsoil stands behind this claim with a very good warranty. Also don't you think for a minute that Amsoil would want you to change oil more often (more oil changes more money in there pocket). Just because oil is dark in color after 5,000 miles doesn't mean it has broken down. Most all auto manufactures recommend 5,000 mile oil change with conventional motor oil not 3,000 miles. Also most auto manufactures say in there manuals that synthetic oil can be used. I have heard some bad stories about Mobil 1.

Message: I havn't heard any "horror" stories about Mobile1. Other than it caused engine that never leaked with dino oils to leak, or heard one guy say it was crappy oil because it was the consitency of water. 0w-30 is that consitancy and is supposed to be. How else do you expect it to flow easy on sub zero temp starts. What horror stories ahve you heard?? And even though Amsoil has their warranty, I still would change every 3000-5000 miles. SOrry, but like I said before it is cheap insurance for your engine.

Message: What's the prob here? I run Mobil1 fully syth & a mobil1 filter - been doin so since 35k and it's been great! up til then I ran penz, but i still change my oil every 4-5k.
As for ANY synth causing your engine to leak - geez, i bet if i blew a hole in the block with a rifle you'd still blame the synth oil wouldn't you? If your engine is dirty and gummed up - no leaks - if you start putting GOOD synth in and it cleans up the engine and frees the passages - you have leaks - the oil DID NOT CAUSE them - it just made them apparant...

Message: 25,000 miles!!!!! Even if the oil does not break down it becomes contaminated with things you can't see and can't be filtered out, sulfuric acid is a byproduct of combustion and it will eat the engine parts if in a high concentration.Use a "Wix" filter, they make the Napa Auto Parts filter and change the oil at 3,000-5,000 miles.

Message: Interesting!! When did Fram become a no-no?? I recall a Consumer Reports test of oil filters a few years back, saying that the Frams would filter out particles smaller than the tightest engine clearances, and that they were superior to anything else at the time. They also did an oil shear and wear test, with only three or four brands not breaking down a full SAE grade during testing. Castrol GTX and Pennzoil Turbo Formula were the only two I can remember. For what it's worth, my air-cooled motorcycles always shifted better on hot days with Castrol....No matter what brand, 3000 mile changes were advised anyway.
Also, the incorrectly diagnosed light-throttle ping I had been living with for 6 years totally disappeared when I went to the low-end Bosch Platinum plugs (they were on sale!) "Pipe Noise" was what a grizzled old muffler man said it was. Three dealers had no clue, one even wanting to warranty the muffler, of all things!! I wish I'd had changed the factory plugs sooner!

Message: 6 QUARTS!
It reads full because that's not the measure of the amount of oil in there, rather, the pressure. You can get right pressure with that much oil, but it's just much less of the oil..why do you want that? Oil-is-good!

Message: I use Royal Purple synthetic with a K&N oil filter they both work great they claim 12,000 miles before changing. I am in the Navy and run the petroleum lab onboard the ship and the reason you change your oil in an internal combustion engine is no matter how new your engine is piston rings leak minute amounts of fuel by causing dilution also your oil becomes acidic after a period of time so at the minimum change your oil every 4,000 to 5,000 miles. As for spark plugs I use Autolite 5224 they don’t say anything about being platinum as somebody earlier mentioned.

And some "independent studies" were convetional oil was tested at 3k intervals and showed more contamination then syn oils after 30k. so as my own testing i stopped changing my oil in my 2.0 cavalier at 95k and sold the car at 185k with the same oil and filter. working as a service writer i have seen things go both ways. i change the oil in the dakotas at 8k with mobil 1. and my newer cavalier is done at 15k with mobile 1 and has 55k now. and the last truck i owned done every 20k with mobil 1. no leaks in any of them. oh well the debate goes on. still love toasting sport cars with my trucks
