Subject: Chugging at low speeds IP: Logged
Message: I am having a few problems with my truck. 1993 dodge dakota v8. Symptoms: Not starting, just turning over. I replaced the distributor and rotor, then realized I wasn't getting any fuel pressure. I dropped the tank to check for voltage and didn't get any on the fuel pump. Found the splice before the fuel relay was nothing but powder, repaired that and now the truck starts fine.
My new problem: when I drive around town at low speeds it will start chugging. If I give it more gas it will take off, but if I let off the gas it will chugg again...
What's the most likely problem?
105,000 miles.

Message: I still haven't looked at this yet, no time. (between the wife and I and the kids we have 5 autos and they all need work! Just spent the weekend doing my daughters brakes and some simple front end body work).
How can I tell if it's the engine or the transmission? I have so many cars to fix right now I really can't afford to shotgun this issue. Plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, all wouldn't hurt, but it would add up and if it doesn't do the trick I will still have a truck with problems... Would it be easier to let a shop diagnose it and then fix it myself if I can?

Message: Ignore that other poster... wasn't me. No, I never figured this out yet. It got worse. Now oil pressure drops to zero after 5 miles... chugs after 6 miles... doesn't overheat yet, but I don't really drive it anymore. Oil smells like fuel, some froth under oil caps....
I am thinking blown head gasket mixed water in the oil and created slug which caused the low oil pressure and the chugging... but again.. I'm just going off of what I read here...
Now, my question is, do I work on this or just junk it? I will probably need to replace all the gaskets and oil pump. Is it worth it or will there be more problems once I crack this engine? And, how many hundreds will it cost? oil pump looks to be $30, gaskets look to be around $150... but then getting the heads rebuilt will probably be $400.
The body is bad with hail dings and a few larger dents. The paint clear coat has failed so it is pealing.
I just use this truck as a short runner (6 miles a day).... I have done a head gasket repair in a 4 cylinder car, so is this that much different? Will I need to mess with timing chains... never done that before. Will I need to pull the engine... Don't have any equipment for that. I guess I can just read the book also.
anyway. any more advice would be great.

Message: Check the wiring splice just forward of the relay box on the L fender. The ASD, fuel pump and a/c are all fed from this splice. When it starts to corrode it causes all sorts of nasty driveability problems until it finally breaks and results in a no start condition.
