Subject: Running hot IP: Logged
Message: Got a 01 Dakota with 4.7 engine. Been running warm off and on for few days. Tried new thermostat; ran hot again; took off water pump and found corroded place directly behind water pump on timing cover. Any body run into this problem? Is that what causes overheating? How can it be repaired? Thanks!

Message: with that rotted out your engine is not getting the proper circulation of coolant
keep running that engine like that and you'll cook the motor
replace it flush the cooling system
(most likely it has never been done)
use new coolant
