Subject: I may get a V8, 4.7!..

Hey Guys! I have a 99 dakota 2wd,V6, 3.9L auto with 177000 and I'm just about to exchange it for a 2001 dakota 4X4 v8, 4.7L Auto with 101000 miles, I got a taste drive last saturday and I loved the truck, now I can see that 2 more cylinders make more power, only one owner and the only thing that I really start thinking about its when I sew the hitch on the rear bumper, the actually bumper its bent so this truck its been hauling heavy stuff. Now! what I don't really want its to buy it and then experience lost of repairs in engine or trany. Carfax says this truck its been rolling aprox. 12000 miles per year. Should I take the truck to a Dodge Dealer or Just to a regular mechanic for a complete inspection?
Any comments from a 4.7L owners I would really apreciate.

Thanks Guys!

Sounds like another worthless carfax report - all you need to do to find the info they gave you is divide the odometer reading by the number of years the truck has been on the road !
Did you ask the seller what they have been towing ? The rear bumper is not rated for nearly as much weight as that truck can haul. With a proper receiver, that truck will tow around 6500. I've towed that with my '00 4.7 and never had any engine or transmission trouble with it. Pull the transmission dipstick yourself and see what condition the fluid is in to see if it has been maintained - should be bright red, not drown or burnt smelling.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

the truck has 100000 miles on it that someone else put on..... so if you think you wont be working on it your sadly wrong. you might get a year before something happens, or 2 weeks. could be something simple like a sensor issue or, mostly like cause its dodge, you will go through a tranny.

Little johny, if you think someone who says they don't want lots of repairs is meaning they don't expect any repairs on a 100,000 mile vehicle then it is you who are sadly mistaken. Your main purpose here seems to be putting down Dodge and bragging about how great your chevy is. I've replaced so many GM transmissions that I would never own another. The transmission that comes behind the 4.7, and has also been used since the advent of the 5.7 hemi, has proven to be quite reliable. Most who buy vehicles of this age and milage, regardless of brand or who put the miles on, will expect some repairs once in a while.
