Subject: Late shifting problem IP: Logged
Message: Im having trouble with Automatic transmission shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. When I take off it won't shift into second gear until 5,000 rpm. Then it will jump through third and fourth into fifth gear. There is no problem with it down shifting that I notice. It always seems to be in first when I start from a stop. Fluid level is correct and still red colored and doesnt smell burnt, yet. The truck has been worked on alot recently and something is out of adjustment. I just don't know where to start looking. And if you've been to a mechanic lately you can understand why I am trying to fix this myself. Mechanic $ex hurts. So if anybody knows these transmissions I sure would appreciate your input as always. I believe the Trans. is the A518 4wd.
Thanks

Message: Thanks daddio, I must be wrong about the A518. The truck is a 94 with the 5.2L 318. The trans. has the push button overdrive which seems to still work but has no effect on the upshift problem I'm having.
