Subject: 99 RT rpm jump at hwy speed? IP: Logged
Message: Hey I'm new and bought a 1999 Dakota RT 3 months ago and when you get it on the highway doing 120kms and have it in cruise the rmps jump from 2500 to 3000 then be fine then does it again? Already has a rebuild tranny and still didn't fix it.

Message: Sounds like to torque converter is slipping out of "lock up". Did you replace it along with the new transmission? Did you make sure the throttle valve cable is adjusted proper? Who did the transmission rebuild?

Message: the garage said they replaced the torque converter, but this is a place that rebuilt a transmission without changing the tranny pan and put the old sensors back in.

Message: quote "changing the tranny pan and put the old sensors back in."
That might be the start of your problems.
I believe in your transmission you have 3 sensors
1. Governor pressure sensor
2. Governor Solenoid
3. Overdrive lock-up solenoid
If these go bad they could cause the problems you are having. Find a good transmission shop and ask for a free diag..... don't tell them it has been worked on recent ... act as if its been in there for a long time ... sometime they will drive it real quick and give you some ideas of the problem ...
