I got a full tune about 3 months ago. It has 130k on the motor. Could it be to cold of a plug because it did not do this before the tune up.

If anything a colder plug would help pinging, not increase it. Does the engine use any oil?

Have you serviced the cooling system lately? Do you have the stock 195 t-stat? you could try a 180 degree stat. Could be carbon buildup in the combustion chamber.

What plugs ar you running?

I've tried the 180 T stat on 2 trucks now.
ya it solved the pinging but both trucks ate up more gas then they did before
and 1 would trip a code daily in winter

it was just tuned
check the wire routing

and I don't know what they/you installed for plugs
but I would highly recommend NGK FR5's

Assume it is a v8, 318 likely.

have you changed your plug wires recently?

There is a TSB about routing plug wires on a 318 to avoid cross firing and pinging resulting from such. TSB

Can't recall the number but try googling "Dodge TSB spark plug wires" or some such.

Mike c, Hey did have a good suggestion with the NGK FR5's. These engines do seem to like them. The Autolite's are OK, a lot of people posting on here have used them but IMO, the NGK's are better.

Also, check for that TSB that mac mentioned about re-routing the spark plug wires. Especially since you say this started after the tune up.

A can of Seafoam wouldn't hurt either. When you follow the directions on the can, this stuff will clean the combustion chambers and injectors better than anything else I've tried.

Yes, that is a great write up. In fact, i got rid of my mild pinging by running the Bosch Reg Platinums not the +4's.
