Subject: offroad tires for 04 IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking to get new tires for my 04 dakota and I want bigger.
I'm interested in the Yokohama Geolander M/T, but I never do any
off-roading. Should I purchase mud/terrain tires? I want a
rugged, beefier look for my truck.

Message: All terrains would be a better bet. I had Bridgestone Dueller Revos on my 04 Quad CAb V8. Ride got a bit firmer than my Toyos but not intolerably so. Grip was great. Traction was great. Traded it with 25000 miles or so on the tires and didn't even seem halfway into their usable life yet. And I really think it was a cool lookin tread pattern. I will go with those or BFG AT KOs on my 09 Tundra when the time comes. More likely the revos. Seemed to give a beefy truck look and that extra capability just in case without any real sacrifice of onroad capability.

Message: Going to a knobbier tire will give worse milage, and a bigger tire will lessen acceleration. Not saying you shouldn't do this, if that look is important to you; just wanted to make sure you understand the repercussions. Since you never offroad, eddy's all terrain suggestion is a pretty good compromise. I didn't want to compromise milage too badly for my hemi Ram; found fair pricing and good wear reviews on Nitto Highway Terrains on ebay. Rugged look, that looks like it will roll smoother than an all terrain. Satisfied with them so far.

Message: I got an 04 quad cap 4wd and I am also looking to get bigger tires. This is going to sound dumb but I dont know the rim width that come stock on these trucks and what the biggest tire that will fit. Do I have to worry about a wider rim if the new tires are wider but have the same rim diamter (16")? Thanks for your help guys this site has helped me out a lot!!
