Subject: 4.7 Cloud of smoke IP: Logged
Message: I have an 01 4.7 Dakota with 205,000 miles. It would smoke on start from time to time, but now I smoke badly after idling for a light, etc. It's a whitish thin smoke from the tailpipe. Gets worse the longer I idle. I've looked around in the forums and have mixed answers. I plan to replace the PCV valve and see how that goes. Not looking for a rebuild, just some more time before I pick up something else.

Message: Quick answer is that your valve seals have gotten old and hard.. You have a very old engine and its tired. Try valvoline high mileage oil- I,ve seen it reduce valve seal smoke in several old engines(it softens the hard seals). Try it-All you can lose is the price of the oil.

Message: try two applications of "Motor Medic" in lieu of motor oil. You won't have any oil pressure for 15 seconds or so but it won't smoke. you'll then need to sell the truck pretty soon for obvious reasons...........
