Message: From looking at it it looks like the left bank is forward of the right bank, so #1 should be left front. Yes?
where is #1? behind 1 on left bank or on the right bank?
I'm more accustomed to thrashing on I4 and I6 lumps.
last V8 I had much to do with was a Lycoming in a 1937 Cord<G>

Message: Which bank is forward makes no difference on cylinder numbering. Odd is driver's side, even is passenger side.
#1 is driver's side front cylinder, with 3 behind, then 5, and 7 all the way back.
#2 is passenger side front cylinder, followed by 4, 6 and 8.
firing order:
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

Message: Lead cylinder is always no.1. To Jason- some older engines from other makes are numbered 1234 on one side. 5678 on the other. Probably before your time. but its out there.

Message: and the Lycoming V8 used in the non-supercharged Cord fired along one bank then back the other bank (firing 1-2-3-4-8-7-6-5 IIRC)
very odd. they found they had to change it for the supercharged engine to a scheme similar to today.
