Message: Kyle, I think you mean 5.9 unless you transplanted a 5.7 in there. Anyway, what you describe sounds like the oilpan is full of crud and after the engine runs a little while it gets sucked up into the oilpump pickup screen.
I wouldn't drive it anymore until you drop the oilpan and see what's goiing on in there.

Message: I have a 2000 w/ a 4.7 - last year my oil sending unit went out - but before it did it, was showing intermittent complete drops in oil pressure. I knew it was a false indication as my engine would run smooth and sound fine, and when you gave it a little rev it would jump back to its normal spot. I think it was a 30 dollar part - hope this is the same for you...

Message: here's something to try
drain the oil
plug back in
pour 1 gal of kerosene in the motor
let it set an hr (don't run the motor)
drain it out
take notice to the condition
of the kero and/or what else it drains with it

Message: Thx for the welcome! It usually doesnt snow like that here - but did like 3 times last year (Global warming?) Its been hot as hell lately (near Yosemite)
So is that Kerosene deal really safe?
I think i would change my oil twice in a week after that.

Message: The 318 is somewhat noted for low oil pressure.
First thing I'd do is plug in a good mechanical "oil pressure testing" gauge and see what that says. If it confirms...
how low is the pressure? at what rpm?
