Subject: 5.2L air intake replacement IP: Logged
Message: The airfilter box on my '97 Dakota with a 5.2L Magnum is warping on the engine side and the airfilter no longer seals as tightly as new or as I'd like. I drive on gravel/dusty roads quite often so I'm looking for a durable solution. I'm not sure if an aftermarket performance filter will fit the bill as I'm thinking that it may get fouled quickly in the engine compartment. I like where the cool air is drawn in by the stock airbox as I think it is relatively dust free, as least from the dust churned up by my wheels.
All ideas welcome.

Message: time to visit the local junkyard and look around.
take some basic measurements from yours and take a tape measure and your measurements sheet. I would suspect that 97-9 might have the same unit, same for Durango with similar engine. mioght be same V6 or 4 as well, I don't know.
I'd imagine a dealer-new item to be rather pricey but it won't hurt to ask.
The K&N type products are designed to be cleaned regularly and then re-oiled. (Most users don;t realize that and they end up caked beyond belief--spoken as one who managed an oil change place for awhile and had to explain the hard facts to numerous owners). So there is some economical benefit if you follow thru on the maintenance...the complete set up is a bit pricely though and maybe the new factory part might not be so bad after all.
Check it out.

Message: I've seen references that plainly state using an aftermarket "performance" type intake can and will cause problems. I can't give them to you, but perhaps you could search and find them yourself.
