Subject: How to tell IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2003 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 2wheel drive. How can I tell what size the engine is. I am told by one person its the 5.2 and another said its 4.7. Where is the place to find the engine size. Also. I am going out West and pulling a 27 foot Dutchman. Any comments or helpful hints. Thanks

Message: If it is a V8 QC, it is either the 4.7(most likely candidate) or 5.9. The 4.7 has the "coil on plug" style ignition and the 5.9 would have a traditional distributor with a distributor cap and 8 individual spark plug wires.
The 5.2 was last in a Dakota in '99.

Message: The 4.7 also has a side draft TB, while the 5.9 TB is downdraft. If it's the 4.7, don't be afraid to let it rev when towing.

Message: you truck has a sticker under the hood that proclaims the vehicle meets whatever standards. in the sticker you will find listed the year for which the standards are applicable, and the engine size. It's usually a silver sticker, but may also be white.
look.
