Message: Does anyone out there with Dodge exp. know what the Dodge Dakota manual says in regards to the backlash specs for the 9 1/4 rear diff? I've got a new gear set from Richmond that won't pattern pionon dept worth a lick at the eched .010 BL on the ring gear. It's a 2000 Dakota 4.7L,auto,w/9 1/4 diff, 2wd. Thank you for time help.

Message: If your looking for the ring gear backlash is it .005-.008 inch. What is yours? The markings just state the set is off .10 (there should be a + or -) standard. But we really this is difficult to discuss in a forum. I have installed 4 sets of gears over the years so I know a little about it. I always add .003 the the existing shimm thickness and only have removed the pinion gear once. Call Richmond or Randy's Ring and pinion. They might still help over the phone. Don't cheat or give up cause you will be wasting a set of gears.
Good Luck CC

Message: Thank you.the Richmond markings are .010 back lash, and 2.707+/-0 pinion dept. I couldn't get a clear pattern at .010bl. Never had a problem w/richmonds before so this is a first. All this head ache over a broken(and mashed)diff clutch clip!!Guy at the Dodge parts counter laughed when I asked for a clutch kit & tired to sell me another $800 clip slinger. Got a Auburn for $470. Thanks again for the specs.
