Subject: Exhaust Headers In Cali. IP: Logged
Message: When I had my Ranger 4.0L, I installed a set of ex. headers and ever since have had trouble getting it to pass smog. Unfortunately I live in California. Untill the third time around i got fed up and threw the original cast units back on. Now I'm kinda nervous about buying a set for my Dakota.
Is there anybody out there in Cali. that has an aftermarket set on there truck? Are you having the same problems I had? Or do Dakotas with aftermarket sets do better on emissions than my Ranger(92 4.0L V6)
Got a 2004 4.7L

Message: Buy a set of headers that have a CARB EO# and you won't have to worry about passing smog (especially the visual check).

Message: Gibson, JBA. You can find tons of them on eBay right now.

Message: Go JBA, they sound good, they work good, and most are legal, i put Gibsons on one of my other Dakotas and within 1 yr they cracked completely around one of the tubes, i had to take it off and re-weld it last week.My JBA's have performed very well and have passed smog twice in the past.Although i have failed smog twice last week its due to a catalytic converter that seems to be too high flowing,New law starting jan 1 09 limits the cats you can put on your vehicle now i am down to one option....putting a 2.5 dia magnaflow cat on my 3" exhaust.
