Subject: Trouble Code P-0455 IP: Logged
Message: Engine light came on a couple days ago. Trucks giving me code P-0455; "large evaporative emission control system leak has been detected." Anyone know anything about this, know where a good starting point would be?

Message: It is a large leak in the vapor recovery system. The usual suspects are (in no particular order): 1) gas cap, 2) charcoal canister (inside the frame below driver's seat), 3) cracked rubber hoses going into the canister, 4) cracked rubber hoses under the hood (there's a diagram showing their paths), 5) purge solenoid.
If it's the canister hoses you can buy an evaporative emissions hose kit from the dealer (p/n 05166499AA) for under $10. This is your best bet for these, because the hoses are in the right size and shape.
If it's the hoses under the hood you can buy 5/16" fuel hose (you don't need the hose rated for fuel injection pressures, carb'ed will do). Buy about 6 feet and you'll have enough to replace all of it.
What's your left foot doing? ============== 2002 Graphite QC SLT Plus, 4.7L, NV3500, Superchips 3715, 3.92 LSD, R/T rear swaybar, no chrome, loads o'fun... 2001 Patriot Blue Durango SLT, 4.7L, 45RFE, Superchips 3715, 3.55 Open (for now) 1999 Forest Green Dakota RC Sport, 2.5L, NV1500, 3.55 Open

Message: Most likely it's the gas cap. Dodge caps are known to be "leaky" so pay the six bucks or so for a replacement and you shouldn't have the problem again. Bought my replacement 4 years ago and never had the problem again.

Message: It gives me a different code (0442) when the gas cap leaks. I replace my gas cap every other year or so. I think there's something else going on this time.

Message: I had this code and it was a very slightly dry cracked hose under the hood on the right side. Check all the hose modain said, if you see any that are at all cracked change them. They should be all solid straight rubber.
And as always, anytime you fix a trouble code issue. Completely disconnect the battery let sit for 30 minutes to 1hr to let the computer completely reset.

Message: Chad,
Just by turning the key to the on position while the negative post is unhooked, for about 3 secs, is all you have to do. This drains the capacitors, etc. Clears them every time.
Drive it like its paid for!
