Message: I was reading an article in truck trend... or something like that... over at the bookstore tonight about the 5.7 hemi. From what I read right now its only going to be offered in the full size ram 3500 for hauling. I assume that if its going to be in the dak they'll regear it to be quicker. Then again you have to think of how much lighter the dak is compared to that...
Lightenings advantage would be from the blower
The new Ram SRT10 will obviously getting its power from the trusty viper 8.3 :P
And the Dak R/T's advantage is the fact it has a full duty engine in a lighter, more racey :), shell.
Of course there is the Syclone with the IC'ed turbocharged 6 but since they're so rare I wouldnt be too worried about em but they are deffinatly a factor in the sport truck spotlight end of things no doubting that.

The 5.7 Hemi will be in Ram 2500, as well as 3500 models. It is suppose to arrive in the 1500 later next year, from what I have heard. Don't know about the Dakota, yet.

Message: The 5.7L will be an across the board replacement for the 5.9L, but not all at once. It will gradually be introduced, first into the Ram 2500-3500, then the Ram 1500 (might now be the same time as the 25/3500), and lastly in the Dakota/Durango. Will be with the 545RFE tranny from the D/C newsletters I get. I don't have anything on the demise of the R/T Dakota (at least not the name, anyway). The www.car-truck.com website is notorious for putting out bad information, so take anything there with a big fat grain of salt.

Message: I read www.car-truck.com every day and I'd say they are the most accurate with the information first. When things change they are the first with that news as well. They never have said anything about the Hemi in the SXT or the demise of the R/T, I don't know where anybody is getting that. I would challenge you to post something car-truck put out that turned out to be completely wrong. If you do find something I bet it was something that was planned and later scrapped by Dodge, in which case www.car-truck.com would have bee the first with the correction.

Message: Hey guys, i work at a dodge store in wisconsin, we'll be getting a couple 2500's with the hemi in the first couple weeks of august. The 3500's should be out with it near september or so, thats what we've seen. The 1500's with have it by christmas. I think they will put them in the durango and dakota, but its not going to be until 2004 at the earliest. In terms of transmission, the hemi uses the mercedes 5 speed automatic transmission, which i'm sure everyone will love =D

Message: Chrysler Group invested more than $7.5 billion in new powertrains during the last several years. This includes a new line of multi-valve passenger car engines, as well as a new family of SUV and truck engines — the 3.7-liter V6, 4.7-liter V8 and class-leading 5.7-liter HEMI(R) Magnum engine, to debut this fall on the all-new 2003 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty pickup truck.
The Mercedes-Benz W5A580 five-speed automatic transmission will be built at the Chrysler's Indiana Transmission Assembly Plant starting in 2004 for use in selected Chrysler Group vehicles. DaimlerChrysler announced this program in late 2000 as one of the first component-sharing programs of the 1998 merger between the former Chrysler Corporation and Daimler-Benz AG.

Message: Dave what's your point? It doesn't say the mercedes tranny is for the 5.7 and seeing as how the 5.7 will be out in 2002 not 2004, that seems like a long time without an automatic. The official specs on the 2500 and 3500 series rams has already been relaesed and the automatic behind the 5.7 is the 545rfe.

Message: That is correct Hersbird. The car-truck site is not the most reliable source for any new releases on vehicles. He goes on rumors and hearsay as much as hard fact. When I get my newsletters and updates directly from D/C, I tend to believe them just a bit more (although not entirely).

Message: By the time it reaches anybody with those news letters it is already old news at www.car-truck.com. He at the very minimum gets info from those same news letters as they are being printed and therefore weeks before they actually arrive in the main stream. I still stand by my challenge to point out something that was bad information. I agree he may put out stuff that is not set in stone from Chrysler, and later has to be corrected. The point is when he puts it out it is usually something Chrysler is thinking about, and the report will state it as a possibility, not fact.

My uncle has been there for 20 years and he got the chance to drive one. the approx Horsepower was 350. I also talked to a dodge truck rep at the woodward dream cruise in MI where i live and She also said that the dakota will most likely be availble in 2004 and IT WILL replace the RT 5.9. Well i sure as hell know that im getting on that waiting list if i can afford it!!!!!!!!

Message: Well, depending on how long till they come out with a 2wd 5.7L 5-spd (6 maybe?), im going to keep planing on getting a 5.7 to cram into my '01 4x4. One thing im afraid of, is they are going to change the body style too much before the new engine comes out. Now the new style might look better, but i really like the current body. I guess only time will tell.
