Subject: 92 dakota blows fuses IP: Logged
Message: When the electric windows or the fan heater motor switch is activated the 40am fuse located under the hood on the right side firewall burns out. This occurs occasionally. There will be couple days of use and then it blows...Other days a new fuse is placed and the first switch of either of the two blows the fuse. Where do I begin to look to find the short?

Message: I would start with a resistace check on your window switches. If they checkout ok (less than 3 ohms-closed, and should be infinite-open) I would trace back the wiring from there.
I would also check for wire corrosion on the fuse block in the engine bay as well. If your truck is a 92, there is a good chance some of the wiring/contacts have developed corrosion. Corrosion increases the wire resistance, and would be prone to overheating/over-drawing current.
Does your heater/windows seem sluggish before the fuse goes? That would be a quick indicator they aren't getting the power they need.
I would also check to see if nothing has been "piggy-backed" off that circuit for something else.
