Subject: No Bus IP: Logged
Message: 1999 Dakota 5.2L Truck dies intermitently. Runs for 5- 30 minutes and then all of a sudden just dies. With key left get "no bus" onodometer and several of the relays under the hood start clicking wildly. Truck will not restart until 5 minutes or so and then runs fine for another 5- 30 minutes. ECM (by me) and body control module (by dealer) have been replaced but nothing has changed. No OBDII codes will drop out. I have checked grounds and wiring and so far found nothing.

Message: you've got an electrical issue. Could be instrument cluster or cruise control or other broken/damaged wire.
It us usually a PCM but since you replaced it, it's got to be wiring from something to the PCM. have you made any changes to anything lately? like added a new stereo? changed any bulbs?

Message: I don't agree that "no bus" is usually the PCM (ECM). That is commonly indicated by a code that looks for check sum errors. It is an electrical issue though. No bus simply means an electrical problem for one component comunicating with another. Keep checking grounds and connections and looking for damaged wires as Dan M suggests.

Message: THANKS for the replies so far. I have added nothing new lately. I thought ground or bad wire also. But seems like these issues would not come & go - particlarly when just sitting there idling? I have also heard of a bad 3-in-1 splice somewhere between the relay box near the battery and the PCM - anyone know exactly where this would be?

Message: Just down stream from the fuse block under the hood there is a splice that commonly corrodes on the 88-96 models, it controls pretty much everything needed to run the truck and can be tempermental to temperature and moisture when it is bad. Just take off the tape and inspect to rule it out. As for the computer part, electrical components will often work when they are cool and fail when they get hot if they are bad. You may have a bad PCM.

Message: 02dak4x4...what does this have to do with his 99? Kowalski is right on this one. Dan M go find a MyGig radio and play with it.

Message: Did you check the ground wires at the PCM?
Take the PCM off and check from the PCM side into the wiring harness?

Message: Did check wiring harness connectors at PCM - seems like grounds (and power) are all OK. Truck is back at dealer for another try - hopefully they can solve puzzle this time.

Message: Obviously that applies specifically to 88-96 but I don't know that it couldn't to the 99. When you are chasing ghosts any idea may help.
