Subject: 4.7 No Heat after Acceleration IP: Logged
Message: 2000 Dakota 4.7 - Replaced thermostat, backflushed heater core, new heater control switch on dash
I have no heat; seems like its air locked. If I remove the radiator cap and give is gas to raise the idle I do get a few air bubbles coming to the top every so often. When I do this I get great heat. I then close everything up and take it for a ride. As soon as I get to 45 or 50 MPH, I lose the heat again until I repeat the process. I did have a new heater core installed about 4 years ago but I had heat after that.
Interestingly, once I lose heat I can disconnect both lines running to the heater core (supply and return) WITH THE TRUCK RUNNING and there is not antifreeze running through them. I don't get any flow until I remove the cap and race the engine.

Message: More than likely the "no heat" you're descibing is a fualty check valve in the vacuum line that goes under the dash to run the heater controls. When the valve fails, the air coming out of the vents is redireced to the defrost ducts on acceleration. The valve is a dealer item, and is fairly cheap
