Has anyone had a similar problem with a knock in the steering wheel when you turn the wheel? What could it be? Thanks for the input in advance.

Yes, lots of different reasons to have this, including a recall/TSB issue on certain year models.

Maybe you could enlighten us on things like:
year, body style, mods to the wheels, etc.

If it's a contiuous clicking as you turn the wheel could be a clockspring. IF it's just an occasional 1 or two clicks or knocks, could be a bad column.

There's also a very good possibility you have a worn steering universal joint. Id start off by check cause it's easy. Have a friend turn the wheel with the engine off and the truck parked, look at the joint, and listen for it to make a sound. Sometimes the sound is coming from that joint underneath the truck but it can fool you into thinking its coming from the immediate area of the steering wheel.

It's more than likely the the lower steering shaft. I had mine replaced while still under warranty. I haven't heard the knock since.

Could be the intermediary shaft joint...mine starting popping 7 years ago and I never fixed it. I was told it won't fail on me just an annoyance...

Maybe it's a loose nut behind the wheel.
