Message: Does any one currently drive a 08 Dakota. If so then how do you like the engine. Better fuel millage and better low in Toruqe?
I used to own a gen 2 Dakota when the 4.7L was new. The engine would somtimes stall out when idleing and the power curve seemed to cut back when accelerating past 75.

Message: It sucks. Get you a Ford Ranger. That new 4.0 V6 is just a real bad @ss. Same one form the mustang.
You'll no modification. Because it's got all the power you ever need to pull a 10' boat or camper trailor.
Yes buy a truck that don't break down every 30K miles. No bad balljoints, transmission,or even cheep plastic inside.
Buy a Ranger

Message: LOL
i saw a ford mustang cobra with a "upgraded" kenne bell twin screw turbo on pass time last night (replaced the stock one). It ran the 1/4 mile in over 15 seconds. Sure, go with ford :)
let's not forget the new V6 camaro will be 300 HP and better gas milage than mustang GT.
regardless i won't trade my 08 avenger or 02 dakota 4x4 for any mustang or ranger...
good question, I've wondered how it compares to the old 4.7. I've not seen a dyno of the new one.

I bet he too owns a Dakota:)
I keep hearing about the Ecotech V6 from Ford that trucktrend keeps yacking about. What about? They say it will be a turbocharged engine with over 300HP and 350ftlbs of toruqe.
But then again just why would I want a engine with a turbocharged engine? I like them natural asperated "unless it's a diesal".

Message: Yeah well Joe, I herd in the land of OZ they found a way to put there 6.8L 30 vavle V10 under the hood of your Ranger. Also it includes a 6 speed auto or manuel. And if you like Diesal you can always opt for the 365 cid (6.0L) V8 powerstroke engine.
hmmmm imagine a aluminum version of there V10 under the hood of a stylish Crown Vic!!

As for as the Dakota goes, I love the med size truck with the full 4 doors. The v-8 and auto also fits my needs real good by being able to put three car seats int he back seat!
If Ford made a 4 door Ranger with a V-8, then I would may bought one of them. The Explorer sport track is ugly to me. It is too busy where the cab and bed come together.
I owned an 87 Ranger for 8 years and loved the supercab, but my needs have changed over the years. The little 2.9 with the 5 spd pulled everything that I hooked up to it and was running great when I traded it in.

Message: I agree, the guy couldn't drive that cobra. That show is fun to watch, sometimes you see idiots like that, sometimes you see sleeper vehicles.
I have 2 big complaints for the dakota quad cabs.
1) newer ones are the same ride height for 4x2 and 4x4, 4x4 should be taller imho.
2) the short bed. Toyota and nissan both offer larger beds (optional but it DOES exist).
I do enjoy my 02 QC 4x4. I've added so much to it to personalize it, I'm keeping it until the wheels fall off.

Message: I agree with those points Dan M. But the biggest I have with the new Dakota is theres just no style to it. They should have left it alone.
And where the Hemi and reg cabs?

Message: Amen! where's the standard cab and the Hemi? I just put a 5.7 Hemi in my '93, I loved the 5.2, but hey with 100 more HP I couldn't resist. By the way, I can change the spark plugs in a 1st gen dak with a 5.2 in like 10 minutes... the 4.0 ranger takes half the day and most of the skin off your nuckels. Not to mention the 5.2's bigger outside dimentions.

Message: I have been a Tech for 10 years i have driven my 95 dodge dakota for most of that time. The 5 speed with a 318 now has 248,000 on the clock burns a little oil past 4000rpm but still runs great. P.s rangers balljoints are worse than the dakotas the 4.0 is a piece of crap and the rest of the engines cant keep up with traiffic.
95 dakota 318 soon to be 383
