Subject: brake question IP: Logged
Message: i drive a 2000 dodge dakota 4x4 4.7 and i'm pretty sure it has the worst brakes i've ever seen.. when you are on a loose surface or wet road and hit the brakes it doesnt even think about slowing down it just keeps going. when i do this usually just one of the tires locks up and i hear a "clicking" sound from the other. any clue what this could be?

Message: Hard to say but I think I would start with a basic brake inspection.

Message: I drive an '01. Although I can't say the brakes are great, they're certainly not the worst I'v ever driven.
Like gak said, start with a general inspection.
Second, how are they when the road is dry and warm? If they're good then but not on a poor surface, that usually means the brakes are fine and the driver is not. If you're locking up the tires, you're losing brake effectivness.

Message: yeah i am bringing it in next week for a brake inspection. and the only reason i did that on the wet pavement was to test them. either way i dont see how just one tire would lock up and not the other one. they arent that bad on dry pavement, they are a little spongy but i think they just need to be bled.
