I have a '99 Dakota 4x4 w/5.2L The shop tells me its got a trouble code on the Intake Air Temp. Sensor. It has the required 5 volts getting to it. It should have 18k res. at 50 deg.F and 1k res. @ 176 Deg.F. At 36 deg.F it should therefore be 19.8K res. I am reading 10-11K Res. Does anyone know if this would throw the code?. It's my kids car and she's broke, I have cancer and just got laid off, So I don't want to seem like a cheapskate, but I don't want to spend $50 on a sensor that won't help. Thanks in advance for any help.

Tim.
If there's an Autozone nearby, they will read the code for you for no charge. This will give you a verification of the shop's diagnosis.

Intake air sensor codes are:
P0111 - INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR PERFORMANCE
After a calibrated amount of cool down time the PCM compares the ECT Sensor, IAT Sensor, and the Ambient Air Temp Sensor values. The IAT Sensor value is not within -10 deg C (18 deg F) of the other two temperature sensors.

P0112 - INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor circuit voltage at the PCM goes below 0.078 of a volt.

P0113 - INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor circuit voltage at the PCM goes
above 4.9 volts

Do this. Ignition switch ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON (without starting the engine) and the codes will display in the odometer readout section. PDONE = end of code list.
Tell us what codes come up.

Josh, i don't think the key trick works on the '99's for some unknown reason.

Tim, Autzone or aother parts houses will read codes for you for free. get the codes and post back here.

i don't ever remember hearing about an IAT sensor going bad. i don't want to knock the shop you went to but it is always good to get a second opinion.

advance reads codes too. They don't advertise it as much as autozone, but they do it - at least the ones here in Atlanta GA area.

I have a friend that would drive past advance to get to autozone to check codes. He stops at advance now that he knows they do it as well.
