Subject: Strange Dakota Breaking Noise - IP: Logged
Message: Hey, I'm new to these forums, but I'm hoping someone will be
able to help me out.
Just bought a 1994 Dodge Dakota SLT 4x4 w/ the 5.2 V8,
After offroading a little bit, (did some donuts, etc...) I began to
experience a ticking noise while the brakes were applied (only
going forward, not reverse) The ticking is quicker the faster the
vehicle travels and vice versa with slowing down. Also, the brake
pedal began acting strangely. (Feels like it kinda gives a little,
and makes some grinding noise.) However, the truck is still
managing to brake fine, even though this must be a brake
problem.
Sorry for being so long winded, would appreciate any advice.

Message: Oh, I forgot. I have an ABS system in this truck, and that could very
well be related.

Message: Welcome T-Nickel, i was thinking along the same lines as Jefff... on the other hand jack it up and start checking calipers and brake pads,u-joints anyway. When mine started clicking it was u-joint and it would only do it in reverse but yep it was u-joint on mine.

Message: Well, I checked out my joints, which were OK. But then I thought...
If it IS the ABS, why not just unplug and see if the problem persists,
so I did... And! No more problem. I don't know how ABS would
cause my brake pedal to kick back, or give out, but it did.
Thanks for those quick responses guys, I guess I should've thought
this one through better.
