Subject: O2 Heater Circuit Short? IP: Logged
Message: After SEVERAL agonizing trips to the stealership, I'm still having issues with my Kota...It won't pass smog because it throws up a Check Engine Light. Initially was getting a "No Bus" error. Was told to replace PCM -Did it - Still won't pass. - Stealer had truck for 12 days, told me it was either CTM (Central Timing Module) or a short somewhere. Replaced CTM, No More "No Bus" error, A/C now works again, STILL have no Overhead console functions, no interior lights, and WON'T PASS SMOG! Keep getting "O2 Sensor Heater Malfunction" error...On 3 of the 4 Sensors...Has to be a short, right?! Also, noticed alot of corrosion forming on Pos Batt Terminal. Now, my ? - Where is the O2 Sensor Heater located, and where is the wiring, so I can check entire circuit... Thanks for hangin with me for this long, any help much appreciated...

Message: The heater is in each sensor. The purpose is to heat the sensors up to operating temperature as quickly as possible, as they are designed to work when hot. I had a Check Engine Light once that told me the heater circuit had failed in one of the sensors. I replaced the bad sensor, cleared the codes, and everything has been good since. I agree that the problem you are seeing sounds like more than just a bad sensor. Each sensor has three wires. One of them is for the heater circuit. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Message: Depending on the year, there are 3 OR 4 wires to the O2. It could be a ground, power splice, 3 bad sensors, or mice chewing on the wires. Mice like O2 sensor wires for some reason???
