Message: Well, I finally got something newer. The 1993 Dakota definitely served its purpose well, but it was getting real beat... I definitely got my moneys worth. I'm not gonna go Dodge this time because, well I know alot of people who have newer Dodges, and they all bitch alot about the mileage. The mileage sucks on the Dakota, and these days it hits hard. I ended up getting a 2003 Silverado with a 4.3L 2wd auto fairly loaded. I'm satisfied with the capabilities of the v6 and it pulls my boat just as good as the 318 did. This was a helpful site, so hopefully I'll find a chevy site as good.

Message: Sometimes you just have to say goodbye to the old beast and get something more updated. I hope the Chevy works out just as well as the Dodge did for you. My three trucks have been Toyota ('93), Ford ('98), and Dodge ('00). Maybe a Chevy should be on my list for the future too!

P.S. The Dakota is my favorite of the three. I guess that's why I have kept it twice as long as I did the others!

Message: I did the same thing in April 2008. Traded my 2000 Dakota 4.7 4x4 club cab for a 2002 silverado 2500HD 4x4. Didn't trade for better mileage but I traded to get more towing capacity. I tried to tow a 30 foot travel trailer with my 4.7 dakota. It did well on a 9 mile drive home when i bought it but wasn't feeling safe driving it on a 270 mile trip through the mountains in PA! My 4.7 got about 14 - 15 MPG and the Silverado's BIG BLOCK 8.1 496 cubic inch engine gets 12 MPG. Not much difference in MPG but can pull up to 12,000 pounds VS 6,100 pounds with the Dakota. Good luck with your Silverado. I love mine but do miss the Dakota!! It was a great truck when I had it!
