Its absolutly the PCM. The idle is set low to pass emmisions at idle. I have a 2000 4.7 5-speed
and had the same problems. I had my PCM reprogrammed by Mike Leach co. and my problem was solved. Its not so much the idle setting as it is ignition timing. My PCM reprogram uped my timing for a hell of a lot more power and FLAWLESS idle.
It cost aroung $450 to have it done. 2001+ must have ASE do it now as Dodge changed the computer codes and Mike Leach can only do the 2000s. ASE is also around $400.

But let me tell you----- having your PCM reflashed is the BEST upgrade out there for the 4.7s.under $500 PERIOD PERIOD!!! Dont spend the bucks on a TB first.

Well, glad to hear that SOMEBODY has gotten this crap fixed. My '02 4.7 has been at the dealer for two days and they can't find a thing wrong. I've got a district specialist, or something like that, coming next week to look at it. Cudashoe is right, this has to be a timing problem, up the RPM's at idle and all you get is higher idle with same roughness. The smelling from my exhaust after hard acceleration tells me it's TIMING. Nobody has listened to me. Please tell me who can do this reprogramming for the timing change without having to go back to my dealer (or any other for that matter).

for the 2001 and up you have to go to www.asechips.com

They arent quite as aggressive as Mike Leach co, but their PCM upgrade will fix your idle problems and give you over a 20 HP gain!!!

I have a 1999 5.2 liter that will not idle. This problem seems to occur every 30K miles or so. After changing the spark plug wires and cleaning battery post the problem seems to go away. Maybe disconnecting the battery has something to do with reseting the computer. I'm not real sure but I don't think I will ever buy another dodge again.

Ive got a 2001 4*4 4.7 and it wants to stall sometimes at stops and when i put it in reverse. Although it starts up right away, I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the transmission or transmission fluid. I never had the problem until I changed the tranny fluid. Can anyone help?
